Private William Raymour of Company G, Massachusetts 54th Voluntary Infantry

Return to Company G

Private William Raymour of Pennsylvania (1844* - )

Pittsburgh Dispatch, 23 August 1891
Enlisted from Shippensburg, PA on 12 April 1863. He was 19, single and working as a laborer.

Mustered out on 20 August 1865 in Pittsburg, PA.

Also known as William Ramer per the Pittsburg Dispatch, 23 August 1891:
"The following are among the lucky applicants for pensions reported by the agency J. H. Stevenson & Co. [...] William Ramer, Company G, Fifty-fourth Massachusetts [...]"
Pension Index Entry
Ancestry.com yielded a military pension index which shows Private Ramer's original application and his widow Mrs. Eliza Ramer's application after his death. This gives us a death date of either 1895 or early 1896 and the first evidence I've found of his spouse. It also confirms that he did indeed return to Pennsylvania after the war.

* Birth year calculated from age given at enlistment.
